What Is a Ceramic Coating?

A ceramic coating is a liquid protective product professionally applied to your vehicle's exterior surfaces.

Once properly installed and cured, it creates a durable protective layer that enhances gloss, produces strong hydrophobic behavior, and helps make routine maintenance easier.

Unlike traditional waxes and short-term sealants, professional ceramic coatings are designed to provide substantially longer-lasting protection when properly installed and maintained.

What a Ceramic Coating Can Do

  • Enhance gloss and paint depth
  • Create hydrophobic water behavior
  • Make routine cleaning easier
  • Help resist environmental contamination
  • Provide longer-lasting protection than traditional waxes and sealants
  • Help preserve a properly prepared finish

Honest expectations

Ceramic Coating Is Powerful Protection — Not a Force Field.

A ceramic coating does not make paint scratch-proof, rock-chip-proof, or maintenance-free.

It won't prevent every water spot or eliminate the need to wash your vehicle.

What it does is provide a durable sacrificial layer that enhances your finish and makes properly maintaining it significantly easier.

If rock-chip protection is the primary goal, paint protection film may be the more appropriate solution for high-impact areas.

Preparation

The Coating Is Only as Good as the Surface Underneath It.

Coating a dirty, contaminated or swirled finish locks that condition in place for years. This is the part of the job most owners never see, and it is where the difference between an average and an excellent result is created.

  1. 01

    Wash

A thorough, safe wash removes loose contamination without grinding it into the paint.

  2. 02

    Decontaminate

Iron, tar and bonded contamination are chemically and mechanically addressed as needed.

  3. 03

    Inspect

Paint is evaluated under proper lighting to identify defects and determine a safe approach.

  4. 04

    Polish / Correct

The appropriate level of enhancement or correction refines the clear coat.

  5. 05

    Prep & Coat

Surfaces are wiped down to remove polishing oils, then coating is applied and leveled panel by panel.

Answers

Ceramic Coating Questions, Answered Honestly.

How long does ceramic coating last?

Service life depends on the coating installed, the vehicle's exposure, and how it is maintained. Professional coatings are designed to last years rather than the weeks or months typical of wax and sealants. Vehicles that are washed correctly and maintained on a schedule hold their performance far longer than vehicles run through brush washes. We will tell you the expected durability of the specific coating we recommend for your vehicle rather than quoting a generic number.

Is ceramic coating worth it?

It is worth it for owners who keep their vehicles a while, care how the paint looks, and want washing to be faster and safer. The value comes from two places: the corrected finish underneath the coating, and a slicker surface that releases dirt with less contact. If you plan to trade the vehicle soon or expect the coating to eliminate maintenance, the value case is weaker.

Does ceramic coating prevent scratches?

No. A coating adds a thin, harder sacrificial layer that can help resist very light marring from proper washing, but it does not make paint scratch-proof. Improper washing, automatic brush washes, and abrasive contact will still mark the surface.

Does ceramic coating prevent rock chips?

No. Coatings are far too thin to absorb impact. If rock-chip protection is your priority, paint protection film applied to high-impact areas such as the front bumper, hood leading edge and mirrors is the appropriate solution, and it can be combined with a coating on the rest of the vehicle.

Can you ceramic coat a new car?

Yes, and new vehicles are one of the best candidates because the paint usually starts in good condition. The vehicle is still fully evaluated first — new deliveries commonly arrive with transport contamination, wash marks or water spotting that should be addressed before protection is applied.

Does a new vehicle need paint correction before ceramic coating?

Often some level of paint preparation is needed, even on a new vehicle. That may be a light enhancement stage rather than a full multi-stage correction. We inspect the paint under proper lighting and recommend the minimum work needed to get the finish right before coating, since the coating preserves whatever is underneath it.

How long does ceramic coating take?

Coating services are measured in days, not hours, because the majority of the work is preparation and correction, plus cure time before the vehicle should be exposed to water. We give you a specific timeline for your vehicle when we quote it, based on the level of correction selected.

How do I wash a ceramic-coated vehicle?

Use a two-bucket or rinseless method with clean media, a pH-neutral soap, and dry with clean, soft towels or filtered air. Avoid automatic brush washes, dish soap, harsh degreasers on paint, and washing hot panels in direct sun. Wash regularly rather than waiting until contamination bonds — that is the single biggest factor in coating longevity here.

Can ceramic coating be applied to wheels?

Yes. Wheel coatings are a popular add-on because brake dust and road film release more easily from a coated wheel face. Wheels are cleaned and decontaminated thoroughly first, and results are best when the wheels can be coated with the faces properly accessible.

Can ceramic coating be applied to glass?

Yes. Glass coatings improve water behavior on the windshield and side glass, which helps visibility in rain. Glass coatings wear faster than paint coatings because wipers abrade the surface, so they are treated as a maintenance item.

Do I need to wax a ceramic-coated vehicle?

No. Traditional wax is unnecessary and can mask the coating's water behavior. Maintenance instead uses coating-safe soaps and, when appropriate, a compatible topper or maintenance product applied during a maintenance detail.
